Evelien Huyghe, wife and groom of Rocco Cordera, won the pair grooms awards at DVI 2021. I had a lovely chat with her while she was watching the cones.
How long have you done competition grooming? 20 years now. I used to groom for a belgian pair driver Mark Dieleman before I met my husband.
What is a normal day for you when you’re not on a competition? I do the housekeeping, the children and the horses. I also have a business organising events like weddings and parties at our place called Manorhoeve.
Which products can you not live without at a show?
Show sheen and soap. And Plaiting bands or needle and thread, I’m good as long as I have either one!
Which horse is your favorite and why?
Gigolo. He was born at our place and I was there so it’s very special for me to have known him all his life.
What else do you like to do beside from horses?
Ride for fun when I have time.
She thought abit longer to find an answer not involving horses and finished with a big smile.
